Introduction to Hyperscalers: Scaling a Doghouse to Build a Cathedral

2026-07-24T17:59:41+00:00

In his 1997 OOPSLA talk, The Computer Revolution Hasn’t Happened Yet , Alan Kay warned that scaling a doghouse does not create a cathedral. That is the risk in hyperscaler AI strategy today: more GPUs, more data centers, more tokens, and more power, without a clear architecture for value. Scale can increase capacity, but it cannot replace design. A cathedral is not a very large doghouse. It is a different system. As one example, Yann LeCun argues that simply scaling large language models is unlikely to produce AGI because LLMs lack robust understanding of the physical world. The question in 2028 is going to be: did MSFT/GOOG/ORCL/AMZN try to scale a doghouse? submitted by /u/valderium [link] [comments]

AI demand and sustainability of the demand

2026-07-24T17:47:58+00:00

Listen up highly regarded folks I did some napkin math on the whole AI data center demand along with help from AI on numbers etc. Here is what i did: Lets assume 1 billion daily active Human AI users, however, all these 1 billion people are not gonna use at same time 24x7. They might use it 8 hours a day at best. So divide 1billy by 3, we get roughly 350milly rounded. Next, we have power users who will run agents etc all day long, lets optimistically assume 50milly more for them. so now we are at 400milly active users every minute or hour. We will call them organic users (aka living regards) Next we have AI demand from robotics, driverless cars, your own computer spying on you etc.. these are all multi fold higher than any human user base and run 24x7 mostly. Lets assume a userbase of 2 to 3billy machines needing constant AI use every hour. since machine and non human use cases outnumber human usage vastly. Now this represents non organic users (aka machine regards). Note that this user base is conservative at best once there ends up being a robot in every house or office for every purpose. this can go even higher to 5bn users. but lets assume conservatively at 2.5billy Now Living regards + Machine regards = 400mn + 2.5bn = roughly 2.9bn or 3bn active AI users per minute or hour continuously. Now it is not easy to give AI inference. we can assume 1 high end AI GPU for 1 active user who uses AI 24x7. this gives a need of roughly 3bn AI GPUs across all AI data centers world over to meet existing and future market demand Now coming to power usage, ~1000 GPUs draw 1MW at 700kw to 1000kw per GPU average. this results in 3billy/1000 = 3 milly MW of AI data center build out. A number so big we simply cannot meet that demand realistically Now, we also have a issue where these GPUs are not one and done, because they run continuously on inference, they wear very fast with a realistic life of 3 years. now since we are regards, we can be optimistic and if we assume they can run for 6 years instead of 3, we will need 3milly MW of AI data center build out every 6 years or roughly 0.5 milly every year But like how we get margin called, this demand also gets margin called by reality. We can currently only produce ~100milly AI GPUs a year with maybe expansion on the way to 150milly a year in couple of years (by couple i mean atleast 5-6 years) So ground reality is we can only sustainably build and run about 0.6million MW of AI data centres for next 2-3 decades unless we make some breakthrough in manufacturing as we already nearing 2nm nodes beyond which electrons start to have issues and GPUs cannot function Maybe we will get light GPUs instead of electron based GPUs and even Quantum GPUs, but those are realistically decades away And above all this, we are severly limited on below aspects with current annual capacity vs. what is needed. Material / Capability Constraint Level Electricity generation Extreme Grid expansion Extreme Semiconductor fabs Extreme Advanced packaging Extreme EUV lithography tools Extreme Tantalum Extreme Gallium Extreme Germanium Extreme Indium High Copper refining High Tin High Rare-earth processing High Now, while this is happening, parallely we also have people losing jobs to AI , now as they lose jobs to AI and go to give handies behind a wendies, they stop making money to spend on AI. now if they cannot spend money on AI, who will buy the shit AI or any company makes? Thats right , no one. Money has to circulate for economy to function. Even a K shaped economy is K shaped, it functions at both ends with constant circulation. However, with AI, it will become more like L shaped, (and everyone takes a Big L ) and money simply stops flowing to 99% of people, this will result in mega giga depression unlike levels never seen, not even in 1929 great depression. Now, does any highly regarded people here have any insights into how this will playout, i think the bottom will fall, AI expansion will pause as demand and capacity constraints play out and a decade of fast growth will become a decade of depression. submitted by /u/_freckles__ [link] [comments]

3 minute nuclear pitch

2026-07-23T19:31:07+00:00

Listen up fellow regards. Everyone is crying about AI GPU supply chains while completely ignoring the elephant in the room: Datacenters are going to melt the global power grid. Solar and wind can't feed a 24/7 AI overlord. Nuclear is the ONLY answer, the hype isnt over, it still needs to start. After talking with chat jipiti for 37 minutes while wasting two pools of water, I found out about the company Newcleo so I decided to buy 1178 shares (img) What makes me wanna ape in Newcleo? Most SMR companies going public via SPAC are zero-revenue powerpoints run by guys in fellow apes who want to cash out or dilute as much ad possible. Newcleo is a completely different Liquid Lead Coolant : Normal reactors run under 150 bar of insane water pressure. Newcleo uses liquid lead under normal atmospheric pressure. Boiling point of lead is 1,740°C. If power cuts out, gravity and natural physics shut the reactor down by itself. A Fukushima-style boom is physically impossible. (F you dolphin and a whale) Infinite Fuel Glitch (mow): They don't rely on Russian enriched uranium (haleu) like other smrs or others. They use mox fuel, which is made by recycling nuclear waste and Cold War plutonium. (Which they do themselves btw, no supply issues) They literally get paid to take radioactive trash and turn it into clean electricity. They have access to that stash with their partner oklo Why this spac isnt total trash I know what you're thinking: "A spac in 2026? Are you regarded?" ( i am but hear me out) Actual Revenue: They already pulled in $80M+ in revenue/income in 2024 through their vertically integrated supply chain companies (900+ employees). Chad Founder: Stefano Buono (a nuclear physicist who previously built and sold his company to Novartis for $3.9 BILLION). Bulletproof pipe: They raised $780M in private cash + a $220M fully committed pipe. The redemption collapse risk is ZERO. The deal IS closing in H2 2026. The jucy upside France Approval (July 2026): The French nuclear regulator just approved their mox recycling safety concept. The French government literally said newcleo is "too big and rich for startup subsidies" and made them a direct state partner. US Market Entry: Filed their documents with the nuclear guys of the government. Plus, they partnered with Oklo in a $2 Billion deal to convert US Department of Defense Cold War plutonium into reactor fuel. The Arbitrage Wall Is Crumbling: Hedge funds holding at $10.90 are getting eaten alive. Once the SEC Form F-4 goes Effective and the ticker changes to , the $10.90 ceiling shatters. Insider earn-out bonuses kick in when the stock hits $15 and $18. With Big Tech desperate for nuclear contracts, any datacenter deal announcement post-despac sends this straight to the moon. Let me know if you think im just regarded or really uterly insane regarded thx submitted by /u/AlfalfaTemporary8831 [link] [comments]

Canada's Sovereign AI Push with Telus (T/TU)

2026-07-22T17:09:33+00:00

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-ai-data-centre-plan-vancouver-kamloops-9.7195426 https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/26/05/52717839/whats-going-on-with-telus-stock-today ? https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bakx-canada-sovereign-ai-9.7198649 https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/down-11-4-4-weeks-133501184.html With the current boom of AI, the Canadian side of it such as Telus (T:TSX TU:NYSE) is not getting much news. It's one of Canada's big 3 telecoms with over 30% market share across Canada, consistent dividends with their revenue finally increasing after the last interest rate hike, and has announced plans to build/expand their AI infrastructure at 3 sites in BC with backing from the provincial and federal governments. The Canadian federal government has not been shy since Mark Carney took over in their plans to have more sovereign projects with how soured trade relations have been with the States the last year. They've fast-tracking LNG export facilities for service to Asia, approved large mining sector expansions, and increased AI initiatives. And according to the CBC, Telus is the first successful applicant for the federal data center program, a program that has 925 million earmarked in the federal budget over the next 5 years for large-scale AI infrastructure. Telus's stock is the lowest entry point in a decade, has diversified from being a purely telecoms / internet provider to 20% of their income now coming from the health, security, and agriculture sectors, and now has government backing for expanding their AI data centers. Might not be a get rich quick move, but rather a long-term position with shares at ~14.50CAD/~10USD right now. It isn't going away because it's entrenched as part of the tri-opoly in Canadian telecoms, and has been reportedly oversold with Yahoo Finance now projecting a 1y price of 16.67USD. Someone dropped a $50 MILLION bet on OKLO a week ago, 5x out of the money and today, after hours news comes out they're joining a federal program to build nuclear reactors for AI data centers. Fed led initiative. Stock rips 7% AH Who makes that kind of bet without some sort of info lets be so fucking real. Do we have to be an intern gargling some nuts in Washington to make some P in this market or something holy shit. Weird ass oil trades before cease fires, selling access to his GOD DAMN tweets for $100k/mo, made a BILLION DOLLARS from a memecoin fleecing regards. And that's just the shit we can SEE. Bloomberg: Oklo Selected for $200M AI Nuclear Initiative

2026-07-21T20:47:02+00:00

Bloomberg reports that Oklo and X-Energy are joining a Trump administration initiative aimed at accelerating advanced nuclear reactor deployment to support the rapidly growing electricity demands of AI data centers. The $200 million initiative also includes Microsoft and Nvidia, and is designed to speed the development of new power generation needed for AI infrastructure. An official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday during a U.S. Department of Energy AI energy summit. As part of the program, several DOE national laboratories and institutions—including the University of Texas at Austin—are expected to share $60 million over three years to support research and development efforts. The initiative reflects growing concern that the rapid buildout of AI data centers is straining the U.S. electric grid and contributing to higher electricity prices. Major technology companies, including Nvidia and OpenAI, have identified energy availability as one of the biggest constraints on scaling AI in the United States and maintaining competitiveness with China. For Oklo, the news reinforces the company’s positioning as one of the advanced reactor developers expected to play a role in powering next-generation AI infrastructure. The administration’s continued focus on streamlining nuclear deployment and supporting domestic energy production could provide additional tailwinds for companies working to bring advanced reactors online. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-07-21/oklo-x-energy-join-trump-effort-to-speed-new-nuclear-reactors-for-ai?srnd=homepage-europe submitted by /u/C130J_Darkstar [link] [comments]

Am I crazy for still believing in Sam Altman?

2026-07-21T17:47:19+00:00

I know OpenAI has had its share of criticism, but I think people underestimate Sam Altman. The guy has repeatedly shown he can attract top talent, raise insane amounts of capital, and move incredibly fast. He’s also willing to take big bets while keeping OpenAI at the center of the AI conversation. No CEO is perfect, but I’d rather bet on someone who has a clear vision and executes than someone who plays it safe. Curious what everyone else thinks. What do you see as the biggest risk with Altman submitted by /u/ApolloNile [link] [comments]

First-Ever Measured Vera Rubin NVL72 Silicon Performance Stats

2026-07-21T16:37:44+00:00

NVIDIA’s new Vera Rubin NVL72 racks represent a major leap in AI inference efficiency, and CoreWeave is one of the first cloud providers deploying them at scale. The key claim is that Vera Rubin can deliver up to 10× more tokens per megawatt compared to Blackwell, meaning dramatically higher output without increasing power consumption or datacenter footprint. This isn’t just a hardware refresh — it’s a fundamental shift in how efficiently large language models can run, especially for companies that rely heavily on inference workloads rather than training. CoreWeave’s early adoption positions them as a specialized NVIDIA‑native cloud optimized for high‑density GPU clusters and large‑scale LLM deployment. If the 10× efficiency improvement holds up in real‑world workloads, it could significantly lower inference costs, improve throughput, and make advanced AI models more accessible to both enterprises and startups. This announcement signals a potential reshaping of AI cloud economics, with CoreWeave aiming to become one of the most competitive platforms for next‑generation inference. submitted by /u/bossman-CT [link] [comments]
